The biggest challenge for park management is encroachment, either by poaching or using other forest resources (water & timber). The ecosystem services this park provides through rainfall, fertile soils and tourism, sustain the economy in this region. Conservation depends on a stable human population in order to freely allow ecosystems and humans to thrive. It's all interconnected - humans and the mountain gorillas.
