Photo by @daviddoubilet We encountered an American crocodile on night patrol in the mangrove channels of Cuba's Garden of the Queen National Park. This guy glided past us low and slow like a submarine on his way down stream. These large reptiles are called the engineers of the mangroves because their movements open and maintain channels increasing circulation and nutrient exchange. This marine preserve located fifty miles off the southern coast of Cubs is a time capsule in the Caribbean, where reefs are crowded with grunts, snappers and groupers that sustain healthy population of predators.
