Giovanni Anselmo's "Invisible" (1971) uses a slide projector to explore the forces that we cannot see but still shape our world.
Only in a certain spot does the projection "visibile" come into view, so the visitor interacts with the piece and sees the moment when the invisible becomes visible. The projector is just the mechanism--you become part of the art.
The piece also brings up conservation concerns: Now that old-school projectors aren't being made, how does the museum keep the art operational? The Hirshhorn is stockpiling projectors and bulbs, and thinking about the future of digital technology. #HirshhornGlow
