Kay WalkingStick is many things. Abstract and landscape. New York and Cherokee Nation. Artist and mother.
Her duality comes through in her art, where WalkingStick is known for diptychs – two pieces side by side. Now the first major retrospective of her work is on display in “Kay WalkingStick: An American Artist” at @smithsoniannmai, tracing her career from the 1970s to the present and exploring what it means to be an American artist and a Native American.
