Anne Umland, Curator of Painting and Sculpture: “Once the 'Picasso Sculpture' exhibition space was available, we began working with life-size maquettes of the sculptures to help determine where to place works within the room. Prior to that we used the same maquettes to make decisions about the ideal dimensions for each pedestal and vitrine. These types of exhibition “furniture” have to be constructed in advance. The maquettes were created by the in-house carpentry team, with help from the art handlers and other staff from the Exhibition Design Department.
