Don't forget your helmet! Tomorrow is #BikeToWorkDay. For some women, the bicycle signaled a growing sense of liberation. According to one observer in 1896, the bicycle was for women "a steed upon which they rode into a new world." The three women in this cabinet card, a popular means of portraiture in the late 1800s, seem pretty happy with their bikes. The card is in the museum's Teaching Collection and will be part of #ObjectProject, opening July 1.
