These adorable quadruplets born @tierparkberlin don’t realize it, but they carry the future of their species on their shoulders. In the wild, these tigers are faced with two major threats - habitat loss due to palm oil production and illegal snare poaching linked to the use of tiger body parts in traditional Asian medicine. Sumatran tiger numbers have been decreasing dramatically over the last several decades. Tierpark Berlin is working with the regional and global conservation breeding program and zoos all over the world to establish an ex-situ population as one component of the overall strategy to save this critically endangered species.
