Sometimes referred to as the Australian Easter Bunny, the bilby belongs to a group of ground-dwelling marsupials known as bandicoots. Bilbies regularly construct spiral- shaped burrows up to nine feet long and almost six feet deep. As desert dwellers, bilbies use their deep burrows to escape the heat during the day, emerging at night to feed on just about anything their anteater-like tongues can latch onto, including ants, termites, grasshoppers, seeds, beetles and spiders.
