It’s a day to raise awareness of the challenges that ALL women have faced and CONTINUE to face on a daily basis. What a world we live in - on one hand we live in a world where a women specific rock climbing clinic can be taking place, in a popular area such as Boulder Canyon, and the guide can be getting yelled at by a cis-white male stating that they need to yield to him because HE wants to climb where they are. And not a single damn person who surrounds this group (not male, female, or other guides) will say anything to said male and get him to stop yelling in the face of this guide. Similarly, we live in a world where men are given more rights over women’s bodies than we are given for ourselves. Where men get paid more for the same experience as their female counterparts. Where women get questioned about their expertise simply because they are women. We can live in a world where not all women uplift other women; instead they can tear others down so brutally and that is perhaps one of the saddest parts of this world. Because ultimately when ALL women support ALL women, really incredible things can happen. And that is why I do the work I do. Because we all can struggle to see the strength within ourselves; this is a human flaw, not just a thing women experience. But I believe women (as well as genderqueer, gender non-conforming, and trans humans) all deserve to be uplifted because shit, life is hard enough and we need people on our side to lift us up, to help us see the strength and beauty within, to help us realize we are capable of far far far more than we may believe we can.
