テート・ギャラリーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (テート・ギャラリーInstagram)「Today as part of our Queerate Tate for #LGBTHistoryMonth, we're introducing @centrestage.family to respond to William Blake's 'The Good and Evil Angels'. 🔍 Center Stage is a Russian non-profit initiative that aims to support early career LGBTQIA+ artists internationally by conducting open-calls, organising exhibitions and printing zines. 'In Blake’s ink and watercolour print (c.1800), genderless, muscular angels fight over a child. The ‘good’, blond-haired angel protects the youth from the ‘evil’ angel being licked by red-tongued flames. In 2013, Russia’s government approved an anti-gay propaganda law. It is reminiscent of the UK’s notorious Section 28, introduced by Thatcher in 1988. The Russian law stipulates children must be protected from exposure to homosexuality (including same-sex parenting). It opened a Pandora’s box of oppression, shamelessly criminalising queer love. The ‘evil’ angel is not the LGBTIQ+ community, it’s the government that’s denying basic human rights and destroying LGBTIQ+ people’s hopes and dreams.
