Photo by @paolowoods / A lottery stand known in Haiti as a “borlette.” Haitians invest two billion dollars every year in these private lotteries—nearly a quarter of the country’s GNP. They are often referred to as banks, since the poor invest their money in them. Borlettes are found all over the country, even in the most remote and difficult-to-reach areas. This one is in open countryside on the road to Camp-Perrin, in the south of the country.
