The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore was designated a national park in 1970 and established to preserve and share its naturally wild beauty. We marked the 50th anniversary by kayaking and hiking many of the unique islands. Outer Island is a critical habitat for migratory birds, especially for passerines, hawks, and falcons every fall.
