On some occasions, the sea ice next to the ship was “open” for two hours in the evening so that expedition participants could play football or do a round with skies. Sometimes I just felt so frozen after being on the sea ice for long hours during the day that I did polar bear–watch duty and cheered the teams from the bridge instead.
