On #WorldAIDSDay we're taking a moment to remember and reflect on the impact of two artists the world lost to AIDS.⁣

Peter Hujar—a photographer best known for his black and white portraits—was a brief lover, close mentor, and friend to the artist David Wojnarowicz, who he captured here. After Hujar’s death in 1987 due to complications from AIDS, Wojnarowicz described him as “my brother, my father, my emotional link to the world.” ⁣
⁣
After receiving his own HIV-positive diagnosis just a few months later, Wojnarowicz's works became increasingly political. His writing, painting, collages, photographs, and activist work captured the outrage, complexities, fears, and injustices that defined the AIDS crisis until his death in 1992. ⁣
