Oh my gourd! 🍂

Created by artists of the Topará community, this elegant southern Peruvian vessel follows the ancient Andean practice of depicting staple crops such as corn, potatoes, yucca, and various gourds.

With its two spouts connected by a bridge, the bottle was made at a time when significant advances in ceramic technology were taking place. To achieve the bright orange-red color, the vessel's surface was covered with a slip—a watery clay mixture—before it was fired in an oxidizing atmosphere.
