DAILY BOWIE THING – Day 9

“Come on strong girl, And lay a heavy trip on me...”

Last Monday we featured the 1973 cover of Mirabelle magazine for #DailyBowieThing. As with #BowieSheetMusicSunday yesterday, we have decided to make this a regular weekly post as #BowieMagMonday.

Today’s example is among the rarer Bowie magazine covers and though not impossible to find, #19 of CURIOUS from 1971 is hard to source cheaply.

David Bowie had been appearing in the press in Mr Fish designed dresses around this time, with the most famous example being Keith 'KEEF' MacMillan’s UK cover shot for Mercury’s release of The Man Who Sold The World in April.

However, the CURIOUS feature was Bowie attempting to launch Freddi Burretti as Rudi Valentino, singer of the band Arnold Corns with upcoming single Moonage Daydream.

As you no doubt know, this was just a cover for David to release the track outside of his Mercury contract and is markedly different to the version that appeared on Ziggy Stardust the following year. Today’s lyric quotation is from that Arnold Corns’ version of Moonage Daydream.

The inset picture is of Bowie champion Bob Grace with Freddie and David, taken at the same Brian Ward session as the CURIOUS cover and appearing in the two-page spread inside.

Pop back tomorrow for our next #DailyBowieThing
