I’m so unbelievably grateful for Nithya and her much needed vision and plans for what’s possible in Los Angeles and I am so excited to see where she’s going to lead LA to! I was looking back at my photos and the one on the right was taken almost exactly a year ago- November 4, 2019. It goes without saying, it’s been an insanely long and weird year but through it all, Nithya has continued to be a source of hope and inspiration to me and so many others in our city who are ready for real change and have previously felt overwhelmed by the enormity of it all. This was not an easy race for Nithya to win(that’s maybe an understatement). But she NEVER stopped working and she never resorted to lies or negativity- (even when it seemed like maybe she SHOULD) And I believe it was because of that- which is inherently *who* she is (steadfast,determined,smart, empathetic, level headed, funny...I COULD GO ON) - that compelled so many people to show up to vote for her. I remember hearing Deray McKesson @iamderay say that in order to really motivate the most people to the polls, they need to be inspired to go vote FOR someone/something as opposed to voting AGAINST someone/thing. There is no better example of that than in this city council race. Nithya took the time to explain WHY and HOW things worked and her plan to make them work more efficiently for everyone in our city. And by witnessing Nithya’s quiet determination and confidence, she inspired SO MANY of us to not just show up and vote for her but also to make calls! And videos! And hold fundraisers! And talk to our neighbors! And get our friends involved! And hand write postcards for her! And sit at tables near grocery stores! And knock on doors! AND PARTICIPATE IN OUR LOCAL ELECTION!
