Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz / Expedition cars cross the flooded shore of the Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia. This is the biggest salt flat in the world, trapped between two branches of the Andes at 12,000 feet (3,658 meters) and the bottom of the high valley of the Altiplano. Making a running takeoff at these altitudes with no wind at sunrise was challenging, but the surprises that awaited me aloft were sublime.
