L’un, superbement jeune et beau, semble s’abandonner à un sommeil éternel. On l’a surnommé l’Esclave mourant. L’autre, plus brutal, se débat dans une torsion vibrante de tout son être. Il est dit l’Esclave rebelle. - ⛏ Tous deux ont été conçus par Michel-Ange pour le somptueux monument funéraire que le pape Jules II rêvait de se faire élever. Conçus pour le premier projet du tombeau en 1505, ces Esclaves furent entrepris en 1513, lorsque s’élabore un second projet. Le projet sera finalement abandonné pour raisons économiques après la mort du pape. - ✨ Les deux grands marbres, inachevés, étaient pourtant déjà considérés comme des œuvres dignes d’admiration. The slaves were designed as part of the initial project for the tomb in 1505, and Michelangelo began to carve them in 1513 when a second project was developed.
