🍻 Prost! 🍻
The first Oktoberfest was held in Munich #OnThisDay in 1810, originally celebrating the marriage of crown prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.
To mark the occasion, we’ve tracked down some terrific tankards in the collection. Which one catches your eye?
🔎 A stoneware ‘schnelle' with a domed pewter lid-mount. Siegburg, Germany, 1591.
🔎 A miniature tankard made from silver-gilt and rock crystal. London, 1800–1896.
🔎 A small silver tankard with a snake handle. Bhuj, India, 19th century.
🔎 A porcelain tankard with a handle. Arita, Japan, 1680s–1720s.
🔎 A tankard made of polychrome glazed pottery. Iznik, Turkey, c. 1590.
🔎 A tankard and cover made from glass and chalcedony. Venice, 19th century.
