"When you encompass the whole city, it becomes a great 20th-century work of art."

#LouiseNevelson—born #OnThisDay in 1899—loved New York, once describing the city as her "mirror." Nevelson was captivated by the beauty she found in discarded materials around the city, tenderly composing, layering, and painting her "found objects" until they shed their skin, reborn as art.

In "Mrs. N's Palace,” her largest work, more than 100 of these objects come together to make up a piece that emanates both Nevelson’s personality and that of her adopted home.
