Gendarme—the Most Dangerous Obstacle of Okuhotaka
(Matsumoto City)

Gendarme is located on the traverse towards Mt. Nishihotaka in the Northern Japanese Alps. 

It is called the most difficult route in the region, with long sections of narrow, rocky ridges.

It is revered by many mountain climbers and is a sight only witnessed by the most seasoned among them.

*When entering the mountains, bring appropriate gear and leave yourself plenty of time to reach your destination.

*Please practice social distancing and wear masks when in rest areas or mountain lodges.
