Hurricane Laura slammed into the Gulf Coast as a Category 4 storm early on Aug. 27, becoming one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever hit Louisiana after forecasters predicted "catastrophic storm surge," flash floods and fierce winds. “It is clear that we did not sustain and suffer the absolute, catastrophic damage that we thought was likely,” Gov. John Bel Edwards said on Thursday, the Associated Press reports. “But we have sustained a tremendous amount of damage.” At least four people were killed after the storm made landfall, the AP adds.
