This episode is about the action scenes.
I became interested in an action director named Yuji Shimomura @yuji.shimomura.7 when I saw the movie "GANTZ" and I really wanted him to be the action director for us, so I requested him to plan the entirety of our action scenes.
Despite the fact that we had a short preparation period before shooting and the script was still vague even as we moved forward with the production, director Shimomura was able to quickly and smoothly plan the action sequences.
Mr. Shimomura's imagination had a powerful influence on the film, as he made a live video script for us, reached a consensus with the entire cast and crew, and even executed a training program; part of the script actually emerged out of the action scenario.
He happened to have some spare time to help us with our project when we were shooting in 2012, but after that he became a super-coveted action director and wasn't able to join us for the additional photography. So his participation in the project ended with the shooting in 2012, but after watching the CG post-production footages we worked on up until I made the decision to discontinue the project, it became clear that the screen and image structures designed by Mr. Shimomura largely influenced the worldview of "Jellyfish Eyes, Part 2".
It goes to show how filmmaking is a work of art in which so many of people's talents are invested and incorporated, and that's why this project had to be completed at all costs. I thought about the folly of my decision to discontinue the project in March this year and bit my lip in frustration anew.
今回は、アクションシーンに関してです。下村勇二さんという、アクション監督さんを「GANTZ」という映画で注目して、どうしても彼に、アクション監督を、やってもらいたくてアクション全体の設計をして頂きました。撮影までの準備期間も短く、脚本も曖昧なままに現場が進んだにも関わらず、下村監督はサクサクとアクションの設計をしてくださり、ライブビデオコンテを作ってくれて、キャスト、スタッフ全員とのコンセンサスをとってトレーニングプログラムも実行され、逆に、そのアクションの設計から脚本が生まれてくるという、それ程、下村さんの想像力は強力な影響を与えてくれました。2012年の撮影時には、たまたま時間が空いて、我々のプロジェクトを手伝っていただきましたが、その後、彼は超売れっ子になってしまって、追加撮影には参加いただけませんでしたので、2012年の撮影で、彼の参加は終了となりましたが、今回のプロジェクト停止決定までのCGポストプロダクションの映像を見ても、下村さんの設計した画面作り、映像作りというのが、大きく「めめめのくらげ２」の世界観 を支配しているということが、わかりました。斯く程斯様に、映画芸術というものは、多くの人々の才能が投入され、織り込まれていく芸術作品であって、だから何が何でも完成させねばならなかったんだ、と、今年の3月に下した決断への愚かさを思い、改めて唇を噛み締めてしまいました
