Watch Warhol’s kissing couples and excerpts from the first film with an all-Black cast in Week 2 of Film Vault Summer Camp. Collection Specialist Ashley Swinnerton has selected three recent restorations to showcase this week’s theme: preservation.

The oldest film of the group, “Lime Kiln Club Field Day”—never finished or released until MoMA assembled it 100 years later—is the earliest surviving feature with an all-Black cast.

Up next, #KatharineHepburn in a luminous screen test for “Joan of Arc.” While Hepburn would never appear in the title role, this film also shows a test of Technicolor’s latest three-strip subtractive color process.

And #AndyWarhol’s “Kiss” is probably not what most people think when they hear “preservation” or “restoration.” The reel that ran through Warhol’s camera is the same one he then projected for audiences at the Factory, making the scratches and damage part of the film itself.

Tonight, don’t miss a Q&A with filmmaker Todd Haynes and our chief film curator @rajendraroymoma on how old movies inspire new work, live on our YouTube channel at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

In the meantime, start watching the films at the link in our bio, or mo.ma/filmvault
