Covering your face can help combat the spread of coronavirus, but some scientists fear that people now falsely believe masks of any quality are akin to a fortified shield—and they're being labeled as "anti-mask" for saying so.
Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota told VICE: "This isn’t a pro-mask, anti-mask discussion. This is about what the science tells us about the efficacy of cloth face coverings, and how much of a role they play in slowing transmission.”
Osterholm and others see masks as one part of a broader action plan that should include social distancing and avoiding prolonged indoor contact.
