In yet another win for dogs, according to a new study, owning one could significantly reduce your likelihood of developing dementia.
A study of over 11,000 individuals aged between 65 and 84 found that current dog owners have a 40 percent lower chance of suffering from disabling dementia compared to those who'd previously owned dogs or never owned them.
The reasoning: regular dog walks mean more exercise and more opportunities for social interaction, which is considered to have a "suppressive effect" on the development of dementia.
Unfortunately, the same study found that owning a cat makes almost no difference at all :(
