In "Goat's Horn With Red" (1945), Georgia O'Keeffe used the curve of a horn to frame an expanse of deep blue sky. The vivid red of the southwestern desert sand or sunset is reflected against it.
O’Keeffe grew up in Wisconsin and Virginia, and knew as a teen that she wanted to be an artist. Her paintings of flowers, landscapes, trees, canyons, mountains and mesas show a passion for the southwestern desert.
A year after completing this piece now in our @hirshhorn's collection, a retrospective of O’Keefe’s work was exhibited by @ニューヨーク近代美術館—the first solo exhibition for a woman ever held there.
