A male and female red-footed falcon strike a pose at the Monticello Center in Italy. Each fall, this eastern European species embarks on an epic migration to spend the winter in sub-saharan Africa. Come spring, the raptors will return to Europe for mating season just when access to prey animals like rodents is extremely important. Unfortunately, more acres are converted to farming every year, plus more herbicide and pesticide use often leaves these falcons without enough food. So what can you do?
