The best things come in small packages. 🌊
Model Fijian temples such as this one duplicate the architecture of full-scale temples, and were possibly taken as portable shrines on canoe voyages. They are made of great lengths of handmade coconut husk cordage. Their intricate and elaborate construction was a form of sacrifice and skilled sacred work. See this work on view and learn more in "Fiji: Art & Life in the Pacific," now at LACMA.
