Well... this has officially been the saddest week of the year for me. Three days ago, on November 28th, 2019, Frankie Von Quillsbury passed away. She ate her dinner, went to sleep, and never woke up. 5 years is fairly old for a hedgehog, and Frank already had some scares in the past. Maybe part of me knew she was fading... Every moment felt like a bonus. Like a gift.

Frankie was such a funny little creature. She befriended many doggos 🐶🦔 among them @emiko.thehappyshiba and @allterrainpug. Even #goberniego warmed up to her. She climbed the 1st Flatiron with me and established some First Hedgehog Ascents. She traveled across the country to Bishop, Yosemite, Vegas, Rifle, and Salt Lake. I even snuck her on an airplane to Boston so she could meet my parents.

Frankie hated baths but loved warm water on her tummy. She got pretty good at swimming. In her younger days, she zoomed around outside with zesty spunk, puffing her quills at the slightest movement. She was always ready to fight off a threat. Frankie was an Independent Hog. She chilled out as she aged, and traveling became harder as well. She was content to explore our apartment’s hardwood floors, spending most of her time feasting on wet cat food and snuggling into her blankets.

Over the past five years I’ve changed/grown a lot and Frankie was with me through it all. Her snuffly ways brought comfort during times of doubt and uncertainty. I loved showing her the world but I also learned that, at the end of the day, Frankie just wanted the simple things: food, snuggles, and some peace and quiet. I laugh thinking about our adventures, and I’m comforted knowing her little hedgie life was filled with warmth and love.

Thank you to everyone who loved Frankie, near and far. She had a strong fan base. Raise your hand if you ever got pood/peed on by Frank 🙋🏻‍♀️😂 It was her sign of affection. Thank you @beaukahler and @james_lucas - you guys knew Frankie best, after me. Most of all, thank you Frankie 🙏🏻 for your spiny kisses, balled-up cuteness, and stoic companionship through a significant time of my life. I’ll love you forever, little hog 🦔❤️ Rest In Memory. And say hi to Brad for us 🖤 #frankievonquillsbury
