That sums up yesterday’s adventuring with @molly.mitchell and basically our friendship 😂 . Molly is always up for any hare-brained idea and is also great at going with the flow. Yesterday we tried motivating to the crag three times... Got denied from Eldo due to crowds, got lost in search of Seal Rock, and ended up at the Slabs but only did one pitch each. The stoke was low. Just one of those days, y’know? We debated what to do and turns out... Molly had never done the First Flatiron!! At this point it was 330pm, sunset was at 5, and we still had to hike down and drive to Chautauqua. “It might get dark but... you wanna climb the First?” I asked Molly. Yes - no hesitation. . I normally wouldn’t bring someone up the Flatiron for the first time in the dark, but Molly has proven her mental strength (China Doll!!) and I knew she could handle it. Bailing on roped climbing in favor of easy soloing turned out to be just what we needed. We DID IT 🤗 It = getting outside, having fun, and enjoying each other’s company 💛 The stoke returned in force. . Side note: As we were packing up, someone asked if we were seriously bailing from the Slabs in favor of climbing the First Flatiron. I said yes, and he replied, “Wow... I’m almost impressed.” In the moment I felt embarrassed... like we were so lame hiking all that way just to choose something easier in the end. I think he was trying to be funny (??) and he kind of had a point (we were junk-showing lulz). But Molly and I made the right decision for US in that moment, and snobby comments from strangers are never cool. At the end of the day, Molly and I impressed the hell out of each other and that’s all that mattered 🥰 . The next time someone judges you at the crag, remember you’re there to have fun and stay safe.
