This stunning ewer was made in the 17th century in Gujarat, India.
It is constructed from brass bands, which are overlaid with mother-of-pearl plaques each secured with a silver pin. It is part of a garniture – a collection of matching objects designed to decorate a mantelpiece. Swipe to see the full group.
See it on display in Room 33 – the Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery of China and South Asia – and find out more via the link in our bio.
