Migrant families caught crossing into the U.S. illegally can already be held for 20 days. Now the Trump administration wants to be able to detain them indefinitely. A new regulation unveiled on Wednesday would replace the Flores settlement, a court agreement that has been in place for decades that limits how long the U.S. government can hold migrant children in custody and specifies the level of care they must receive. Other administrations have challenged those rules, but President Trump has repeatedly criticized them as part of the country’s “catch and release” policy toward families from Central America and elsewhere. Officials said the new rule would send a powerful message that bringing children to the U.S. was not “a passport” to being released from detention. But the change still requires approval from a federal judge before it can go into effect, and it’s expected to be immediately challenged in court. e_koppenhaver_ Are those crossing the border illegally human beings that we should love? Yes. However they are coming illegally. And that is wrong. Because our nation along with any other nation has to have a set of guidelines to follow- which are called laws in order to function properly and protect. I really am just so confused why we are fighting as a nation within ourselves. In the end all it is going to do achieve is tearing ourselves apart from the inside out. We could blame it all on the media- which does lie and twist things. Or we could blame it on our president- which even though many do not agree with his beliefs, he is still our president and as such, deserves respect. In the end where will letting all these illegal people into our country get us as a nation? I am 100% for anyone who is seeking a better life in the U.S legally. If you have to try to be sneaky and cross the border illegally, how can we believe that is okay and safe for our people? My intention is not to start an argument of any sort, there's enough of them on here lol. I would just really love to see us as a people come together and talk about these problems respectively. Not to take one side or the other, demonizing eachother all the while the real problem out there is dividing us within. If we don't learn to come together to problem solve, regardless of disagreements, I truly believe we will tear our nation down. Not only on this of course, but the many others issues that our country has to deal with.
