Commonly known as a bearcat, the binturong looks a bit like a cartoon drawing with the face of a cat, the body of a bear, and a tail as long as its body. This species proves that looks can be deceiving, as it isn’t related to bears or cats! Instead, binturongs are related to civets and fossas. They are one of only two carnivorous species with a prehensile tail (meaning it can grasp and hold onto objects), and despite their classification as a carnivore, this species prefers to eat fruit! Their diet makes them a key player in re-planting the rainforest, as their fecal deposits spread seeds from the fruits they eat all across their home range.
