After World War II, American fashion photography garnered attention around the globe, particularly through the inventive images of #IrvingPenn, who joined the staff of American Vogue in 1943. While many of Penn’s fashion photographs were composed in his studio, where his subjects were positioned against seamless paper backgrounds, he also traveled on assignment for #Vogue, including a 1951 trip to Morocco. Here, Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn, whom the photographer married in 1940, perches in Bahia Palace in #Marrakech. A highlight of our Photographs auction in New York on 5 April, it will go on display when the exhibition open to the public on 29 March. #SothebysPhotographs
