The cat’s meow! ‘25 Cats Name[d] Sam and One Blue Pussy’ was created by Andy Warhol and his mother Julia. Sharing a love for cats, they populated their unassuming New York townhouse with feline friends, and inspired by their beloved pets – a clowder of 25 cats in all – the mother-son duo collaborated to self-publish Warhol’s most celebrated and delightful artist’s book, featuring Julia’s delicate calligraphy alongside Andy’s quirky illustrations.

Printed in 1954, the book served as a ‘promotional’ – Warhol gifted ‘25 Cats’ to friends and family, and sent copies to cultural influencers, such as fashion maven Diana Vreeland, who found her edition ‘charming’.
