Bidding opens today at 10am GMT on Prints from the Collection of Marina Picasso, an online sale of rare proofs and trial impressions by the 20th-century’s most experimental printmaker, Pablo Picasso. Each work boasts impeccable provenance, having descended from the artist to his granddaughter, Marina Picasso.

‘Jacqueline en mariée, de face. I’, 1961, combines aquatint with scraper, engraving and drypoint. Picasso made over 2,200 prints, inventing techniques as he explored etching, aquatint, lithography and linocut, and using printmaking as a form of expression to achieve results not possible through drawing or painting. When he created his ‘washed’ linocuts, quite often Jacqueline would help out as her husband showered prints with water in the bathtub.
