Save The Elephantsという象の保護活動を行っている施設を訪れたんだ。こちらの施設では象が野生の自然の中で安全に生活ができるように、その動きや生体数を管理しているの。象はとても頭がよく、最近は川に水を飲みにいく時間帯を真夜中にして象牙目的の人間に見つからないようにしてるんだ。いつ襲われるか怖がりながら道を歩くなんて本来の象はしなくていいストレスを感じてしまっているからとても悲しい。
3枚目の写真のサバさんは象の性格をたくさん教えてくれて、象は家族でいつも行動をするのだけど、もし歩いていて倒れて息を引き取った象を見かけた時、その象を丸く囲ってそこに3時間、4時間と長い時間お祈りをして葉っぱを添えたり木の枝を添えたりするんだ。サンブル族のバーナードさんは人間にもすると言っていたの。最後の動画は、人間が溺れているのをみて助けにいく象の動画なのだけど、本当に愛にあふれているね😌こんなに優しい生き物をわたしたちは傷付けてはいけないね。#象牙 #SaveTheElephants
I visited a really amazing place in Kenya called Save the Elephants. It's an orphanage and wildlife reserve where they raise elephants and teach them how to survive in the wild on their own.
Elephants are very intelligent animals and yet another thing that proves this is what they have been doing recently. In nature, they typically drink water whenever they feel thirsty, but many elephants have been observed waiting until the middle of the night to go to stop and drink water so as to avoid poachers that expect them to stop at watering holes during the day. This is not their natural behavior but they've had to adapt because of the danger poachers present. This makes me sad to hear because I imagine the stress it puts on their lives.
The third photo is of a woman named Saba, who taught me a lot about elephants. They usually move together with their families. When they're moving around and see another elephant laying on the ground that has died, they stay there with it and walk in circles around it for several hours. They even put leaves over it sometimes. It is said that this is the equivalent of ceremonial burial for them. Another friend, Bernard of the Samburu people, told me that he has seen elephants doing that to dead humans also. The movie I posted shows an elephant that believes the human in the river is drowning and jumps in to save him. (He wasn't actually drowning, but the elephant thinks he was) We can't harm such kind and intelligent creatures; it's simply wrong🙏🏽 #tiffanysavethewild
