Let’s talk takins. With looks like a Dr. Seuss character, the Sichuan takin is a vulnerable species that lives in the Himalayan mountains. Despite this species being held in high regard across China, the takin is threatened by habitat loss, disturbance from tourism, and illegal hunting. Between 1963 and 1978, a total of 10 nature reserves were established in Sichuan to protect endangered animals like the giant panda and golden monkey, which also provided protection for the Sichuan takin. And recently, two more reserves were created in China specifically for this species, allowing for more in-depth monitoring and research.
