Imagine the changes they have seen: Drought, flood, cultures come and go; villages flourish and then are abandoned; native peoples replaced by Europeans looking for gold, oil, gas, uranium. These paintings stand as witnesses. They were made by the Basketmakers, a culture that collectively spanned the introduction of corn into the Southwest. I shot them scouting for a @ナショナルジオグラフィック grant and an @ancientartarchive project looking at art both in and left out of Bears Ears National Monument. #utah
