Feeling a bit hoggish as the weekend comes to a close? Let the common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) console you. It gets its name from the warts that adorn its face, which serve a purpose beyond physical appearance—they store fat and may soften the blows during fights between competing males. The common warthog lives across much of sub-Saharan Africa, inhabiting open areas such as savannas and woodlands where it grazes on grass and forages for roots and berries.
