If you spot a Luzon Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba luzonica), you might think that it needs first aid! But don’t fret—the vivid red spot on its breast is merely the pattern of its plumage, not a wound. This member of the dove family is native to the Philippine archipelago, with three different subspecies found on three of the islands. This bird spends much of its time foraging for fruits, seeds, and invertebrates (including worms and insects) on the forest floor.
