"The Citroën DS is a product of a team of designers and engineers coming together to create one of the most iconic cars of the century. The Citroën DS featured not only a beautiful, futuristic shape, but also a host of innovative features like the first hydro-pneumatic suspension and, later, directional headlights.

The DS was also a favorite of French politicians. In 1962 Charles de Gaulle credited the sturdy DS in which he and his wife were riding for their survival of an assassination attempt. Despite being riddled with bullets and having all four tires shot out, the improbably still-operable DS transported de Gaulle and his wife to safety." –Paul Galloway, Collection Specialist, Department of Architecture and Design
