Komoro’s Shakusonji Temple and Nunobiki Kannon are the birthplace of one of Nagano’s fabled legends.

In the legend, called “Ushi ni Hikarete Zenkoji-Mairi,” a materialistic woman chases after an ox, upon whose horn a piece of cloth was snagged, and eventually reaches Zenkoji Temple. In the end, she spends the night at the temple and becomes a devout Buddhist.

The highlight of the temple is Nunobiki Kannon Hall, which projects from the precipitous cliff face. It is designated as an Important Cultural Property.
