When I was full-time on YouTube, I felt owned by algorithms. Now, I direct them.

It was never easy to make consistent content like music videos and sketches, but a few years ago, the YouTube algorithm started leaning heavily toward high volume frequency. It’s no wonder so many creators burn out. Overnight, people went from making 1 video each week to 5; vlogging became the new normal, and you were only as good as your last video’s view count. Without the infrastructure to keep up with the demands, I was exhausted and no longer making content that I wanted to make. So I took a big leap and started exploring other avenues of interest like VR/AR, and YouTube generously gave me a grant to make a few experimental VR pieces. That launched my curiosity around using AI for musical composition…and the rest is history.

Today I released I AM AI, an album composed with AI that I’ve been working on for the past year on nights and weekends. I incorporated a variety of AI softwares, vocalizers, and VR tech and one song was distributed amongst 299 individuals using Ethereum smart contracts. I was pleasantly surprised with the incredible new tools artists now have at their disposal. This is just the beginning.
