Video by Drew Rush @drewtrush | The wolves of Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve inhabit an area of over 2.5 million acres in eastern interior Alaska, an environment of extremes. Temperatures can reach -50 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and into the 90’s in the summer. I asked @alaskanps biologist Mat Sorum why he thinks it’s important to study these wolves here in the boreal forest of Yukon-Charley. "Wolves are the check and balance of the ecosystem” he said. “They prevent overpopulation of their prey thereby preventing dramatic declines as well.
