Update: This morning Alo/Cody filed an attempt to add an unfair competition claim to Dana’s lawsuit, alleging a conspiracy to take their business down. Conspiracy requires more than one person engaging in a concert of unlawful action. Late Friday night I was subpoenaed by @ALO Yoga @codyapp to appear in a court room on April 23 for a deposition. This legal action shows that the billion dollar corporation behind the lawsuits against @nolatrees is not backing down. The fight continues and for me, it’s getting closer to home. While the subpoena doesn’t mean they are suing me, they have called me as witness against Dana and will likely scour everything in my deposition to find incriminating points with which to initiate a lawsuit against me. It certainly feels like the owners of Alo Yoga are ignoring the thousands of pleas for a peaceful resolution and instead continuing to plow ahead with their aggressive legal posturing.

I am disappointed. Well, I guess it’s still not just business as usual for me. To me this is about yoga! I am not yoga, but you are. Every student who practices with devotion breathes life into this practice. No company can own yoga. When a company that uses the core values of the yoga practice as its main marketing device acts in a way that betrays yoga, I cannot sit silently by and send them good vibes. It has been my hope and desire that when they heard from their customers, the yogis whose hard-earned dollars fuel their empire, that they’d listen. But the sad and hurtful reality is that the community of yogis whose voice is loud, clear and beseeching has been met with blocked comments, silence and subpoenas.

I do not back down easily. I will not give up. And I hope you won’t either. While this is neither fun nor a “positive vibe”, I believe it is a cause worth fighting for and speaking up about. I hope you will continue to stand with me for truth, for justice, but more than anything for the spiritual heart of yoga.
