During his lifetime, #Rodin authorized multiple bronze casts and reductions of his work, none of which were numbered. Just before he died, the artist willed his estate, and the right to continue to cast his work, to the French nation. A law was passed to limit the number of posthumous casts to twelve: eight are for public purchase and the other four are reserved for cultural institutions. These are considered the artist’s handiwork and are termed “original editions.” #rodin100
