We are deeply saddened by the passing of #JackWhitten, a fearless and innovative artist who expanded the parameters of painting. Recently on view in The Legacy of Lynching‎, you may recognize his mosaic-like painting Black Monolith, II: Homage To Ralph Ellison The Invisible Man (1994)—part of a larger series honoring black visionaries in politics and the arts, many of whom (including Ellison) Whitten knew.⠀
